Sick Food
Sick Food — What comfort foods do you eat when sick?
This morning (day before Thanksgiving) my eleven-year old started the day by vomiting. I’m recovering from a mild cold and finally had gotten a good night’s sleep. I thanked Rachel for waiting until daylight to start puking. Great. Cancel everything. Now I have to keep everyone from resenting Rachel for ruining our holiday. The cousins surely will not come now. Who knows how many of us will get sick before this is over? Last time we had the ‘flu, four out of our five children tossed their cookies. Our (then) four year-old’s famous line is, “My stomach’s not going to do that again!” (Of course, it did anyway.)
Hey, at least I don’t have to clean the house for company now, right?
Here are some foods we like to have around when we’re sick:
-
the BRAT diet — every mother should know this one:
Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Toast
-
Other family favorites are:
7-up
Jell-o
popsicles
chicken noodle soup or Ramen noodles
saltines
Sometimes I find a scrambled egg comforting
Pepto-Bismol
Naturally, everything should be sipped or nibbled slowly (with a bucket or toilet handy.)
Happy Thanksgiving!
