A Love Affair with my Crockpot
December 9th, 2005
How great the crock-pot is! You can throw almost anything in the crockpot, ignore it, leave the house for hours, and still come home to a yummy meal.
If I worked outside the home, my crock-pot would certainly be my best friend. Only a small amount of planning can result in hours of kitchen time saved.
A crock-pot is so simple an idiot can use it. You can’t even burn yourself with it, unless you are really trying. I haven’t tested this theory, but I think my five-year-old could make a decent meal with a few limited instructions.
And then there’s the potluck dinner. A crock-pot is essential for bringing good food to a potluck. Where we’re from, potlucks are great for showing off a new recipe, an old favorite, or just your general good cooking skills. Where we live now, a lot of folks pick up a rotisserie chicken from the grocery on their way to the potluck. I love bringing a big crockpot full of homemade something-or-other to a potluck dinner. I rarely bring home leftovers. My dear old grandma was well known for bringing beef and noodles in her crockpot to every potluck she ever went to.
Crockpots aren’t just for busy people! Here’s a brief list of things you can put in your crock:
Smoked Sausage and Sauerkraut
Beef Stew
Clam Chowder
Chicken Cacciatore
Cheesey Potatoes
HoBo Beans
Mexican Bean Dip
White Chicken Chili
Chili
Pot Roast
Beef and Noodles
… and many more!
