Roast Beef Au Jus
March 15th, 2006
In my quest to lose a few pounds, I am using the least expensive internet diet I could find. (FatLoss4Idiots) It’s one of those combination diets that tells you exactly what to eat each day. I’m eating four meals per day and they are not supposed to be less than 2 1/2 hours apart. Sometimes a meal consists of only one item - chicken, for example. Other times it’s two or three - last night I was allowed to have pasta with tomato sauce and tuna salad.
This actually works for me, on a short term basis. I need rules - not my own, but rules someone else comes up with for me. So, for the next two weeks (I started Monday) I am following these rules and hopefully will shrink myself by a few pounds. (So far, the scales are registering 2 lbs. less)
I don’t like to say I’m losing weight. Usually when I lose something it is an accident and it is something I wanted. Once I lost my purse at the grocery - I definitely didn’t mean to do that and I was not happy about it!
Well, on tonight’s menu is a lean roast beef sandwich. Yum! I’m allowed any toppings I want, but the fewer the better, as the calories can add up quickly. I’ve decided to make it a Roast Beef Au Jus with Provolone Cheese, something my husband once got at a restaurant and was kind enough to let me taste:
Roast Beef Au Jus:
makes 1 sandwich / prep. time: 5 minutes / cook time: 5 minutes
1 sourdough Ciabatta roll, croissant, sub bun, or whatever
3 slices lean roast beef
1 slice Provolone cheese
1/2 c. warm beef broth
Split the Ciabatta roll, place the roast beef on the bottom and the cheese on the top. Place under the broiler just until the cheese starts to bubble and brown. Remove and put the sandwich together. Use the broth to dip your sandwich into.
If you’re like me and would like to shrink yourself a little or a lot, keep your chin up and maintain a smile. We have to think of our whole body, rather than just our tongue and stomach!
