A Quick Kitchen Tip
Anybody out there have a few recipes that they use often, but can’t quite remember all of the ingredients?
I do.
There are a few - like white bread, biscuits, pie crust… that I have to get the recipe card or my favorite cookbook out for every time. The exact amounts and ingredients have failed to implant themselves perfectly in my memory.
Okay, I admit it — I have a pretty lousy memory. I NEVER remember my own anniversary. People usually pin that one on the husband, but in this family, it’s the wife who forgets the anniversary.
Anyway, in the kitchen I have found a simple way to overcome this forgetfulness…
In large, bold writing, on an index card, write out the list of ingredients and any directions you need for your commonly-used recipes. Tape this inside one of your cupboard doors. Next time you are making, for example, white bread, all you need to do is open that cupboard and peek at it for the reminder you need.
Taped to the inside of my cupboard (upper, not lower - who needs to bend down?) I have the following recipes: Waffles, Pancakes, English Muffins, and White Bread. Actually, it’s not the recipe, but just the list of ingredients. I know how to make it, I’m just not good at remembering all of the ingredients and their amounts.
Now that I am thinking about it, I will add a few: Corn Bread, Baking Powder Biscuits, and Pie Crust.
Stay tuned… Tomorrow I will post my recipe for Honey Wheat Bread.
By the way, Thanks to everyone who shared my weblog with friends and family! So far I have increased from about 300 readers in the first week of June to over 400 readers in the first week of July.
