Spinach Temptations
In the wee hours of my pre-dawn morning I noticed, as I was packing my wonderful husband’s lunch, that the bag of spinach I opened said, “Spinach Temptations.”
Since I was in no condition to do any deep, life-pondering thinking, my feeble brain focused on that phrase. Spinach Temptations.
Food is often tempting, true. I am tempted by anything chocolate. I’m tempted by cheesecake, pie, and brownies. I am often tempted by ice cream. I can even go outside the realm of sweets and say that potato chips, popcorn, nachos, and french fries can be quite tempting.
But I’ve never been tempted by spinach. Imagine…
“Oooh, (insert sarcasm here) I really shouldn’t have that spinach, but how can I resist? Oh, please, take this spinach away before I eat any more of it! It will ruin my waistline / health / diet / appetite for dessert!” I have never sneaked down to the kitchen in the middle of the night to grab a fistful of spinach while no one was looking.
Sounds silly doesn’t it? Really, I think the marketing department of whatever brand of spinach that is could do a little better. I eat spinach. I can even say I enjoy spinach, since it is healthy and much less vile than other vegetables. But I don’t think I have ever been or will ever be tempted to eat spinach.
First of all, for something to be tempting it must first be forbidden or at least discouraged and frowned upon, either by yourself or someone else. Secondly, for something to be tempting, it must be so good that you have a difficult time resisting it. Ha! Face it, people eating spinach are doing it for health reasons or because their parents / spouse / or doctor is making them.
Okay, remove sarcasm now. In light of all my goings-on about spinach, it really is not nasty. I enjoy a good spinach salad, spinach on my pizza, spinach quiche just fine. Below find some of my favorite recipes that include spinach. Just click and it will jump to that particular post.

Now, try not to get carried away with all that spinach. Use some self-control and resist the temptation to over-do it!
