Glaze for Grilled Ham Steaks
October 19th, 2006
Here’s a meal we had last weekend that sure made everybody happy. (Except our son, who was unhappy because he was playing frisbee with his buddies and missed out on it.)
Last time Pat went with me to our favorite warehouse club, he spotted these ham steaks. Thickly sliced center cut ham, ready for grilling, frying, or baking — they looked pretty tasty to him. Lately I have been holding myself to a fairly tight grocery budget, so I informed him that was not on the list and we could not buy it.
When we got home, I put it on the list for the next week. Grilling these ham steaks turned out to be a super quick and easy meal. Put this one on your list for one of those I-don’t-have-time-to-do-anything days and it will fit the bill perfectly.
If you have spare time, add some sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, or dinner rolls and some green vegetables. Now you’ve got an honest-to-goodness homemade dinner that you can be proud of.
Here’s how you prepare the ham:
Glaze for Ham Steaks
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 T. white vinegar
1/2 t. dry mustard
1/4 t. paprika
1/8 t. pepper
Combine all of this in a small bowl. Microwave for about 30 seconds, just to help the sugar dissolve. Spoon some on each ham steak. Heat the grill to a medium heat and place the steaks on it. Feel free to spoon a little extra glaze on each slice. Flip them over after about 3 minutes, and cook another 3 minutes. The ham steaks should come fully cooked, you are just heating them up and adding the glaze and smoke flavor from the grill. Serve immediately. Supper (and clean up) couldn’t be easier.
Have a super day!
